Halfway Point 2010: 26-30

I know this is a music blog, but can we all take a second to appreciate the fact that the Twins have scored 36 runs in their last three games? Maybe everything is going to be okay after all.

Here are five songs that are very good, but still not nearly as fun as watching Delmon Young hit right now.

26. New Pornographers – “Moves”

Saw the New Pornographers at the Fox two weeks ago, and the sound wasn't great, but this song still powered through. That cello line cannot be denied.

27. Drive By Truckers – “Birthday Boy”

Previously discussed here.

28. Titus Andronicus – “A More Perfect Union”

Previously discussed here.

29. Mates of State – “Long Way Home”

Written by Tom Waits, previously covered by Norah Jones, this song has been around the block a few times. For me, this version stands out for two reasons: (1) the horns behind the "hat full of rain" line at around 1:15, and the drum buildup to "Watch your BACK if I should tell" at 1:55.

30. Black Keys – “Everlasting Light”

Somehow, they have not yet made a video for this song featuring a plastic dinosaur puppet. Frank the Funkasaurus must have some outrageous contract demands.
