100 Songs for 2012: Outtakes, Day Two

100 Songs for 2012 will be available December 10.  Every day between now and then, we'll be looking at five quality songs that didn't make the cut.

Today's cuts are both the easiest and some of the hardest.  As you (probably don't) remember, last year I instituted a two-song-per-artist limit, also known as the No One Else Thinks Los Campesinos! Had Five of the Top 100 Songs of 2008 Rule.  I think it makes for a more well-rounded list, and it's not like anyone who knows me will walk away from the 2012 list unsure as to how I really feel about Japandroids.

Here are five artists who found themselves on the wrong end of my arbitrary rule-making.  Obviously, all five will be well-represented on December 10.

Passion Pit - "Carried Away"

Gaslight Anthem - "Biloxi Parish"

Japandroids - "Continuous Thunder"

Mountain Goats - "Cry For Judas"

AC Newman - "Encyclopedia of Classic Takedowns"

I didn't spend that much time listening to full albums in 2012, so I'm not going to do any kind of year-end album rankings, but Japandroids and Passion Pit would be 1-2 in some order, Purity Ring's Shrines at 3, then it gets fuzzy.
