Halfway Point 2010: 86-90

Part three of a thirty-seven million part series where Aaron posts MP3s and then frantically checks his box.net stats to see if anyone is listening to them. So far ... five people!

86. Gorillaz - "On Melancholy Hill"

I showed Curt an early version of this list, and his one suggested addition was this song. He's right ... it's really good.

87. Sambassadeur - "Stranded"

Fun Sweden fact: They have a holiday solely devoted to lighting bonfires (Walpurgis Night, Valborgsmässoafton, April 30).

88. Arcade Fire - "Ready to Start"

"If the businessmen drink my blood / Like the kids in art school said they would / Then I guess I'll just begin again ..."

89. Best Coast - "When I'm With You"

This song is good, yes, but as far as "Best Coast-related thing I've listened to what seems like 500 times in the last 24 hours," it's this Hook of the Year candidate below, "All Summer" ... if Kid Cudi had any personality at all, this would be the summer jam.

90. Two Door Cinema Club - "Eat That Up, It's Good for You"

Third best song on Curt's early pick for album of the year, Tourist History ... this blog is just slowly turning into a forum for Curt's opinions, isn't it?

  1. Finally someone understands how this works! I'd argue that I'm really just a regular contributor, so my voice is louder than those that are just reading. That said...

I really like the new format. It's quick, easy and accessible; kinda like all the girls I should be dating. Plus, there is nothing keeping you from writing a 2,000 word opus at a later time.

You're wrong about this All Summer song. It's good, but Kudi isn't the only thing holding it back in my opinion. Still, very enjoyable and easy to listen to.

  2. Have you guys listened to the entire Gorillaz record? My two word review - Hot garbage. Your thoughts?

  3. Curt: There's a lot wrong with "All Summer," but that one, perfect "All summer ... drinking water" section is just endlessly new and wonderful for me. Fifteen seconds of brilliance in kind of a boring three minute song. It's gotta count for something.

Elliot: Yeah, I was kinda bored by the Gorillaz record, and parts of it seemed poorly produced (the Snoop Dogg cameo sounds terrible), but it's NPR's album of the year so far, which intrigues me, so I may go back and give it another shot. It's got three songs on this list, too, so it can't be all bad.

Also, you HATED "Clint Eastwood" when it came out ... I'm surprised you're even checking for these guys.
