"Killing it with close inspecting, killing it can only make it worse, it sort of makes it breed. Present company accepting, presently we all expect the worst, works just like a need"
Okay, I feel kinda bad about attacking Stereogum like that. Yes, I understand the hypocrisy inherent in an angry internet takedown of the concept of angry internet takedowns.
So let's focus on the positive. My blogging philosophy is almost exclusively "Here are some songs I like. Here are a few words that may or may not have anything to do with those songs. Please listen."
That's it, really. I don't think there's time for negativity. I'm literally 50+ songs behind in blogging my Contenders list (check out the sidebar, and even that's not totally updated). There's too much good stuff out there to waste time on hate. If I don't like something ... well then I'm not going to talk about it.
There are a handful of blogs that share both my musical taste and my blogging philosophy. Let's list them here. If I get too talky in future blog posts, or if I turn this thing into a dissertation on late-90s Christian rock as I've been threatening to do for awhile now, check out these blogs for all the new goodness. I would guess that 90% of the songs I've posted on this blog have also been posted on one of these:
Kickin' the Peanuts
Minneapolis Fucking Rocks
Music For Kids Who Can't Read Good
Pop Tarts Suck Toasted
We All Want Someone to Shout For
And, to celebrate these awesome blogs, here's a great new track by the one band that (1) is somehow above all blog criticism and snark and (2) actually deserves all the praise they get. Here's to you, LCD Soundsystem.
"You spent the first five years trying to get with the plan, and the next five years trying to be with your friends again."
"But I'm losing my edge to better-looking people with better ideas and more talent. And they're actually really, really nice."

I hadn't heard this before. Seems good. Either way, thank you for not posting Drunk Girls...
ReplyDeleteYeah, not really into "Drunk Girls" either, though I do like the "Love is an astronaut, it comes back but it's never the same" line.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agree. That's a stellar line.
