Halfway Point 2010: 16-20

Even though the Twins are off today, I still feel like Delmon Young will find a way to get two hits.

In other news, the new Ra Ra Riot album just leaked, so I'll be listening to that for the rest of the day. And, of course, these great songs ...

16. Broken Bells – “The High Road”

I've put it off so long, and now that it's finally time to talk about "The High Road," I have nothing to say. Um ... it's the Shins-iest song on the Broken Bells album. And it's everywhere. You've probably already formed an opinion on this one. Now maybe Strong would like to say a few words ...

17. Los Campesinos! – “We’ve Got Your Back”

Previously discussed here.

18. Hold Steady – “Hurricane J”

Previously discussed here.

19. Woods – “Suffering Season”

If this were a list of "Songs Aaron Sometimes Cannot Physically Stop Himself from Singing Out Loud in the Hallway at Work" ... this one would be a lot higher.

20. LCD Soundsystem – “Dance Yrself Clean”

Previously discussed here.

  1. Four outta five. Nice. LCD is too high here, IMO. But then I often claim to unfriend you, so there's that.

  2. Curt: From you, "too high here" is almost a compliment.

Also, I love that this blog has basically turned into a way for me to determine exactly how busy you, Jerry, Strong, and Chuck are on any given day.

  3. given that i'm writing this at 9:50 because it's the first time i've been able to check the internet for more than 30 seconds, yeah, this blog is a good indicator of how busy i am.

so, broken bells. the high road is good, but not great. again, the lyrics are completely retarded, and you can't understand him anyway, but it sounds good. i'd rank it the 4th best song on the album. the other rankings:

    1. the ghost inside. absolutely great song that i can't listen to and be upset. and, as aaron showed me, the video features christina hendricks and her giant rack, and it's all science fictiony. that's a helluva combo right there.
    2. october. another one that sounds great, but this one has two great sets of lyrics.
    - Remember what they say/ There`s no shortcut to a dream/ It`s all blood and sweat/ And life is what you manage in between.
    - Through the give and take you had to learn/ How to cross the coals and not get burned/ But you`re really just a little girl/ Playing in the park until the sun goes down.
    3. vaporize. at the 1:50 mark, i happened to be driving on an open highway with the top down on a hot summer night as the sun was setting. i think that might've been what nailed this song for me.
    4. the high road.
    5. trap doors. this one is ethereal. if i could still smoke weed, i'd do it to this song.

  4. It's so true. Depending on my schedule, I can devote 20 minutes or 2. It's always a surprise to find which it is...
