Where It All Started: 100 Songs for 2008

I don't think anyone fully understands the concept of infinity, but I still stand by the veracity of this next sentence:  there are an infinite number of pursuits more interesting than studying for finals.

In December of 2008, the diversion I landed on involved compiling a list of my 100 favorite songs of the year, and then writing about them.  This mostly took place at the Starbucks on Union and Laguna.  I have no idea what I was supposed to be doing with those hours.  Hopefully it won't turn out to be important.

In a transparent ploy to get my friends to read the resulting twenty pages of my opinions on pop music, I began handing out data CDs containing those 100 songs in MP3 format.  Sound quality was hit and miss.  Tag formatting, numbering, labeling ... all of this was non-existent.  There was nothing to identify these songs as a compilation.

Now, as I prepare for the third annual Top 100 list, I can start to look at this as something of a tradition.  I'd like to be able to look back a the lists of year's past.  I'd like to be able to easily identify and sort those songs.  Maybe some of you would also like this.

So, for 2010 ... we're re-releasing the 100 Songs for 2008 and 100 Songs for 2009 collections, in one handy ZIP file, with corrected tags, numbering, and labeling ... and, of course, album art.  Whether on your computer or your phone, each collection will now look like a proper album.  A proper album featuring Los Cantadores Chupacabras:

Tomorrow:  Come back to download 100 Songs for 2009.
