Ellie Goulding - "Heartbeats"
Hundreds of years ago, songs didn't belong to songwriters. Instead, there was a canon of songs everyone knew and performed, and probably no one even knew where they came from. The songs belonged to the world.
The Knife's "Heartbeats" belongs to the world. I have never heard a bad version of this song. Jose Gonzalez's cover is the most well-known, but Hype Machine has a bunch of them, and they're all worthwhile in their own way.
And, of course, Ellie Goulding is always wonderful. April 14 at the Rickshaw Stop.

ah ha! i heard "heartbeats" a couple of years ago, then quickly forgot the artist and title of it and pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I would just have to wait until someone else mentioned it again since I really had nothing else in my head other than, "latino-ish named acoustic singer, singing a cover or someone else's song." This time I wrote it down; do you prefer the version you linked to Gonzales's?
ReplyDeleteThe Knife writes good songs. Itunes and Pandora think The Knife should be my favorite band. I think there arrangements are rather terrible. Somebody covering their music solves this problem. I like this more than the original. Also I need to figure out why the interwebs insist that I like The Knife.
