Outtakes 2011: Cool

It's Day Seven of the Tip of Your Tongue, Top of My Lungs year-end extravaganza! 100 Songs for 2011 will be available December 5. Until then, we're taking a daily look at five good songs that didn't make the cut. Today's theme: Cool

Before we get started with the Outtakes today, I want to direct everyone to the first must-download year end collection of the season:  Matthew Perpetua's 2011 Survey Mix over at Fluxblog.  You should go check it out.  Now, on to the post ...

This is roughly the part where these Outtakes posts lose any semblance of theme and I just post five songs I like. However, in agonizing over some last-minute cuts from 100 Songs for 2011, I realized that a bunch of the artists in question appeared in one of two "Cool Lists" that appeared online last week, the first from British institution NME, the second from legitimately-cool buzz blog Gorilla vs. Bear.

So there you have it ... my editorial process basically consists of cutting music that other people think is cool. You probably already knew this.

Little Dragon - "Ritual Union"
Charli XCX - "Nuclear Seasons"
Grimes - "Oblivion"
A$AP Rocky - "Peso"
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - "The Good Rebel"
