2025: The year of music.
Three major music festivals, countless shows, and many soulful connections.
But one band stuck out this year the most: Wet Leg
I saw them for the first time at Primavera Sound in Barcelona and the experience was beyond normal human understanding.
They were captivating. They were powerful. They were sexy. They were so goddamn entertaining.
They had just released a new single called “catch these fists” in preparation for their new album, moisturizer, coming out soon after
“catch these fists” totally embodies the year I had with its violent admissions and carefree attitude.
2025 was the year I leaned into my rage and expressed myself vehemently. I moshed for the first time, I crowd surfed for the first time, and above all let myself feel the music completely. It was defining and healing and inspiring. But I also stuck true to my fandoms and of course am still a little basic because life is too short to pretend pop music isn't fun.
So first place obviously belongs to them:
1. “catch these fists” - Wet Leg
Many other sounds also defined my year. In no particular order:
2. “Dull” - Turnstile
3. “Loud Bark” - Mannequin Pussy
4. “All My Friends” - LCD Soundsystem
5. “Familiar Patterns” - PUP
6. “Close To You” - Gracie Abrams
7. “Leap Year” - Billie Marten
8. “Opalite” - Taylor Swift
9. “Thirst Trap” - Audrey Hobert
10. “Starburster” - Fontaines D.C.
11. “I'm Scum” - Idles
12. “moody” - Royal Otis
13. “Backseat” - Balu Brigada
14. “you're a star” - Fred again.., Amyl and The Sniffers
15. “Dopamine” (Jamie xx Remix) - Robyn
16. “I Got Heaven” - Mannequin Pussy
17. “How Bad Do U Want Me” - Lady Gaga
18. “Play Me” - Fcukers
19. “Parachute” - Hayley Williams
20. “Headphones On” - Addison Rae
Honorable mention - Geese’s new album Getting Killed (all of it)
